The IDEA Faculty Scholars program concluded in February 2025, so we are taking this opportunity to check back in with the participants. This program, launched by Dr. Ashim Malhotra in coordination with ASPET’s Director of Education Catherine Fry, PhD, was created as a multi-module program to incorporate the principles of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility) into pharmacology education and training. Thirteen ASPET members were selected through a competitive application process and began their training in the fall of 2024. The program consisted of a series of four workshops.
It is our honor to announce this distinguished group for the 2026 Scientific Achievement Award, Division-Sponsored Awards, and Journal Award winners who are being recognized for their excellence in the pharmacology field.

The 38th Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET-GLC) was held at Northwestern University in Chicago on June 13, 2025. One hundred and seventy pharmacologists, biologists, computer scientists, chemists, clinicians, and students from both academia and the pharmaceutical industry in the Midwest were in attendance. To our knowledge, this was the highest meeting attendance ever at a GLC Annual Meeting, topping the previous high of 166 from 2024. Twenty-eight ASPET members attended, and an additional six attendees joined ASPET subsequent to the meeting.

The first cohort of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics’ (ASPET) Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) faculty scholars have been selected. The ASPET IDEA Committee, under the direction of IDEA Committee Chair Ashim Malhotra, PhD, chose 13 ASPET members to participate based on an application process that included a Curriculum Vitae, a statement of interest and a summary of participation goals. The program started in the fall.
