A message to the ASPET membership from Executive Officer Dave Jackson as 2025 draws to a close.
ASPET Executive Officer Dave Jackson shares how this issue’s cover story illustrates the ways membership in ASPET can help scientists throughout their careers, as well as the importance of attending ASPET 2026 in Minneapolis. He also discusses how membership in ASPET supports scientists, through grants, community, publication opportunities, networking, and more.
ASPET Executive Officer Dave Jackson shares the travel award options for ASPET 2026, including the new Supporting Our Scientists Travel Awards, that are available for all regular and affiliate members who have been impacted by the funding crisis. He also highlights the available resources and toolkits to support your advocacy efforts for federal science funding.
With membership renewal season quickly approaching, Executive Officer Dave Jackson shares the various steps ASPET is taking to further support our members, such as keeping membership dues costs flat for 2026, increasing travel awards, and more.
Its “Awards Season” at ASPET. Learn more about why ASPET Executive Officer, Dave Jackson, encourages members to nominate peers and colleagues (or themselves) for the ASPET Fellows, Scientific Achievement Awards, and Division-Sponsored Awards.
As we approach the summer months, I’m pleased to turn our attention to a cornerstone of our community: connection. In the rapidly evolving landscape of pharmacology, staying connected—with peers, mentors, and collaborators—is essential. As you likely know, the ASPET Annual Meeting is perhaps the most impactful event we host each year to create connection, as we brought over 1,000 pharmacologists together in Portland, Oregon in April earlier this year.

In an era where scientific research faces numerous challenges, your voice as a pharmacologist is more critical than ever. Advocating for pharmacology and science ensures that our work continues to receive the support and recognition it deserves. I strongly encourage all ASPET members to use any of the several avenues we have for members to engage in advocacy efforts.
I write this month’s note having just returned from the successful ASPET 2025 Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon. The success of that meeting would not have been possible without the help of dozens of volunteers who comprised the various committees that helped with programming, poster judging, and more. The ASPET Annual Meeting is just one example of the many initiatives and programs at our Society that are dependent on the generosity of our members donating their time and expertise. During the month of April, we are pleased to share with you, opportunities to deepen your engagement with ASPET and contribute meaningfully to our collective mission by volunteering.
By the time you read this month’s note, we will likely be just days away from the ASPET 2025 Annual Meeting! I hope you already have plans to join us April 3–6, 2025, in Portland, Oregon, for a dynamic gathering of over 1,000 pharmacology professionals, researchers, and students.
