The Value of ASPET Membership

Last month, I focused on the value and importance of ASPET Divisions. When you become a member of ASPET, you receive free membership in at least one of our 10 divisions. While absolutely a critical reason to become an ASPET member, this is just one of many benefits of membership to consider as you receive our annual reminders to renew your membership for 2025.

As I hope you’re well aware, registration is now open for the ASPET 2025 Annual Meeting taking place April 3–6, 2025 in Portland, Ore. Along with saving up to $220 on the cost of registration, being an ASPET member provides a number of other opportunities and benefits at the ASPET Annual Meeting. For ASPET members who submit an abstract as the presenting author, you are eligible to compete for Travel Awards, Poster Awards, and receive invitations to give oral presentations in sessions at ASPET 2025. In addition, for those who need financial support to help offset the cost of dependent care in order to attend ASPET 2025, members are also eligible for the new ASPET Family Support Fund.

Beyond the annual meeting, another major reason members join the Society is because of our highly respected and influential journals portfolio. All ASPET members receive free online access to ASPET’s hybrid journals: The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Drug Metabolism and Disposition, Molecular Pharmacology, and Pharmacological Reviews. In addition, for those choosing to publish open access, ASPET members will receive 25% off open access fees.

Along with exclusive benefits for the annual meeting and publications, ASPET members have access to a variety of professional development opportunities. In the area of mentoring, ASPET members are eligible to apply to programs like the ASPET Mentoring Network (a yearlong career coaching program for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists) or Partnering for Success (a peer-mentoring opportunity for young scientists at the annual meeting). All members also have access to MentorMatch, ASPET’s new online platform for one-on-one mentoring available to all career levels. Related, members are eligible to apply to the Washington Fellows Program to learn about and become more engaged in public policy issues, or the new Editorial Fellowship Program to build important skills as a peer reviewer and as an editor.
