As we wrap up 2024, the end of the calendar year serves as a natural opportunity to reflect on what’s been achieved and think about the plans for what lies ahead for ASPET. The past year brought several new initiatives and improvements to ASPET programs to provide more value to our members.
Last month, I focused on the value and importance of ASPET Divisions. When you become a member of ASPET, you receive free membership in at least one of our 10 divisions. While absolutely a critical reason to become an ASPET member, this is just one of many benefits of membership to consider as you receive our annual reminders to renew your membership for 2025.
When I talk with ASPET members, I like to ask them about how they first got involved with the Society. Time and time again, the story I hear involves our divisions. For many members, the ASPET Divisions are how members meet future colleagues and make meaningful connections. Both anecdotally and in surveys, it’s clear that many of our members first realize that ASPET is their professional home through their involvement with one of our divisions.
September is a unique month that celebrates two overlapping, though certainly important, parts of the ASPET community: National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) and Peer Review Week.
After highlighting how the Society serves as the “leading voice promoting the field,” aims to be the “authoritative scientific resource” for pharmacology, and “cultivates an inclusive and diverse culture,” I’ll now turn to the fourth and final Strategic Area of Focus—ASPET serving as the “professional home for pharmacology.”
This month, I want to focus on what the Society is doing to serve as an “Authoritative Scientific Resource” for pharmacology. ASPET aims to be the trusted source of scientific knowledge and information regarding the effectiveness and safety of drugs and therapeutic agents.
This month, I want to focus on how the Society has changed in the past year with its strategic focus on cultivating an “Inclusive and Diverse Culture.” Ultimately, ASPET is cultivating a diverse and inclusive community that creates a sense of belonging, engagement and harmony within our interdisciplinary pharmacological community.
I want to focus this month on the progress we’ve made toward being the “leading voice promoting the field.” Overall, ASPET’s objective is to be the leading voice for pharmacology, advocating for the essential and unique role the field plays in biomedical research.
As we approach National Volunteer Week from April 21–27, 2024, themed “Something for Everyone,” we at ASPET strive to provide opportunities for all members to get involved with the Society and make meaningful connections to their peers.
Every individual and organization can be more successful when they work with others toward a common goal. That fact holds true for ASPET, as we recognize that we can accomplish more when we partner with other like-minded organizations looking to benefit the field of pharmacology.
