2024: A Year in Review

As we wrap up 2024, the end of the calendar year serves as a natural opportunity to reflect on what’s been achieved and think about the plans for what lies ahead for ASPET. The past year brought several new initiatives and improvements to ASPET programs to provide more value to our members.

To kickoff 2024, this very magazine underwent a major transition as The Pharmacologist became a monthly digital-only magazine. This change was made to more effectively and frequently update our members about the latest in the field and the Society.

In May, as part of the ASPET 2024 Annual Meeting, ASPET held its first-ever member Capitol Hill Day to provide our members the opportunity to directly advocate on behalf of pharmacology with their legislative representatives.

In August, ASPET was proud to launch our newest member benefit, ASPET MentorMatch. This on-demand program has already facilitated one-on-one mentoring relationships for dozens of ASPET members at all career levels.

In October, ASPET proudly launched the IDEA Faculty Scholars Program for ASPET faculty members interested in embedding IDEA fundamentals into their classroom instruction and laboratory practices.

Along with these exciting new initiatives focused on benefiting our members through mentoring and education, we’re just as excited by what’s ahead for ASPET. In particular, some major changes for ASPET’s journals program are in store for 2025. As we announced back in April, ASPET journals will be published in collaboration with Elsevier beginning in January 2025. The ASPET-Elsevier partnership will expand the usage of innovative technologies leading to opportunities to increase submissions, among many other benefits for the ASPET community.

Also starting in 2025, we’ll be expanding the Editorial Fellowship Program to include Molecular Pharmacology and Drug Metabolism and Disposition, building on the already successful launch of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics version of the program in 2023.

After a year of new and improved programs for our members, ASPET is excited for what 2025 will bring for the Society. We invite you to join us in these initiatives here at the home for pharmacology.
